England Fans Selector Aligns with Tuchel's World Cup Squad
Long before Thomas Tuchel revealed his 26 for the FIFA World Cup 2026, England fans had already taken their seats in the virtual dugout.
A total of 35,389 supporters logged into the official England app, opened the Squad Selector game and named their own World Cup squads. One tap at a time, they tried on the job of Three Lions head coach. One tap at a time, they showed exactly who they trust on the biggest stage.
When Tuchel’s final squad dropped in a live show on the same platform the night before the announcement, the verdict was clear: the crowd and the coach were thinking alike.
Fans and manager in sync
The ten most-selected players in the game all made Tuchel’s squad. No debate. No late shock. The spine of England’s World Cup bid is already written in the minds of the fanbase.
In goal, Jordan Pickford remains immovable. He appeared in 35,233 of the 35,389 fan squads. That’s 99.6%. For a position that usually sparks fierce argument, this was almost unanimous. England fans have nailed their colours to his gloves.
Up front, there was never any doubt. Harry Kane, the captain and standard-bearer, featured in 99.4% of selections, picked by 35,183 fans. Declan Rice, the metronome in midfield, followed close behind at 99.2% with 35,093 picks. This is the core England supporters expect to see every time the anthem plays.
Jude Bellingham, already the heartbeat of this new generation, was chosen by 34,929 fans, a huge 98.7%. Bukayo Saka, England’s relentless wide threat, landed in 97.5% of squads, with 34,514 backing him.
Trust in the new guard
Further down the list, the numbers still speak loudly.
Marc Guéhi, once a quieter name outside the inner circle, is now firmly in the national conversation. He was selected by 34,421 fans, 97.3% of all entries. That is the kind of backing reserved for players supporters see as automatic starters, not fringe options.
Marcus Rashford, with his mix of experience and explosiveness, appeared in 94.9% of squads, chosen 33,588 times. When fans imagined big moments and late goals, they clearly saw him on the pitch.
At right-back, Reece James remains a favourite despite intense competition in that position. He was picked by 31,899 fans, giving him a 90.1% selection rate and underlining just how highly his all‑round game is rated.
Then come two names that underline where this England side is heading.
Morgan Rogers made 30,957 fan squads, an 87.5% selection rate that shows how quickly his stock has risen. Nico O’Reilly followed with 30,597 picks, chosen by 86.5% of supporters. These are not legacy choices. They are statements. Fans are ready to lean into youth and form, not just reputation.
A shared vision for 2026
This time, there was no glaring disconnect between the stands and the dugout. The crowd-sourced XI and Tuchel’s official list carried the same core, the same pillars, the same belief in a blend of proven leaders and emerging talent.
For once, the national debate hasn’t started with “How did he leave him out?” It starts with a different question entirely:
With the fans and the manager so closely aligned, how far can this England squad go when the World Cup kicks off in 2026?
