2026 World Cup Fixtures, Results, and Group Standings

Tracking the 2026 World Cup Progress

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has kicked off with 48 teams divided into 12 groups, marking a first in the tournament’s history. Groups are led by co-hosts: Mexico heads Group A, USA takes Group B, and Canada leads Group D.

Scotland finds itself in Group C alongside heavyweights Brazil, Morocco, and Haiti. Meanwhile, England faces Croatia, Ghana, and Panama in Group L.

Advancing to Knockouts

The top two teams from each group will advance to the first-ever round of 32, joined by the eight best third-placed teams. Sometimes as few as three points could be enough to move on, which adds an intriguing twist to the group dynamics.

This edition features 104 matches, 40 more than the 2022 Qatar tournament. Many anticipate this might be the final World Cup appearance for legends like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Historic Venues and Hosting Duties

The tournament began at Mexico City's iconic Azteca Stadium, famous for moments like Diego Maradona’s legendary goals against England in 1986. This stadium also hosted classic finals such as Brazil’s 4-1 triumph over Italy in 1970 and Argentina’s 3-2 victory against West Germany in 1986.

Mexico and Canada are set to host 13 matches each, while the United States will stage 78 games. From the quarter-finals onward, all matches will take place in the US, culminating with the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Who Will Take Home the Trophy?

The debate is alive again. England’s promising young squad, defending champions Argentina, France’s deep roster, and Spain’s developing talent all present strong bids for the title. Fans everywhere are wondering which nation will emerge victorious.
