AC Milan Targets Breel Embolo as Attack Reshuffle Begins

AC Milan have set their sights on Breel Embolo as a possible new pillar of Rúben Amorim’s attack, but the race for the Switzerland striker is already crowded and complicated.

According to calciomercato.com, Milan have opened talks with Embolo’s entourage to understand the margins for a deal: how much Rennes want, what the player expects, and how quickly a move could be built. At this stage, it is still a conversation rather than a negotiation. Rennes have not yet been contacted directly.

The Ligue 1 club hold a strong hand. Embolo is under contract until 2029 and is valued at around €15m, a figure that looks far from prohibitive for a starting-calibre forward in the current market. His performances at the recent World Cup only sharpened interest, and he has already indicated he would be open to a return to Italy.

He will not be short of offers.

Napoli, now under Massimiliano Allegri, also have Embolo on their shortlist as they plan their own rebuild up front. Bournemouth are tracking him from the Premier League, and England is understood to be a destination the player would welcome. Serie A’s admiration is nothing new either: Juventus and Roma have followed him in the past, proof of a long-standing belief that his profile fits Italian football.

Path to Embolo

For Milan and Napoli, though, the path to Embolo runs through exits.

Milan are still waiting for the right proposal for Rafael Leão. The club have set their line at €50m and, so far, no offer has met that valuation. Until that changes, room in both budget and attack remains tight.

Napoli, meanwhile, are working to move Romelu Lukaku on, with sporting director Giovanni Manna tasked with finding the Belgian a new destination. Only once that sizeable piece falls can Allegri’s club truly step into the Embolo race.

Milan do have another lever they could pull. Santiago Giménez is among the players who could leave, and if the Mexican forward departs, the Rossoneri may decide to push for Embolo regardless of what happens with Leão. One sale might be enough to unlock the deal.

Right now, Embolo to Milan is an idea more than an operation. But ideas in the summer market can harden quickly. Once the first major forward moves, the rest of Europe’s attacking dominoes will start to topple—and that is when Milan, Napoli and Bournemouth will discover just how serious their pursuit of Breel Embolo really is.
