Arsenal Ready to Spend Over £125m on Julian Alvarez Transfer

Arsenal is reportedly willing to surpass the British transfer record in a bid to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez this summer. The striker, who joined Atletico in 2024, has impressed with 49 goals and 17 assists so far and remains under contract until 2030.

The club faces stiff competition from Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champions, who are also pursuing the Argentine attacker. Arsenal’s attack reinforcement plans suffered a setback when Morgan Rogers chose to join Chelsea instead. Another option, Bradley Barcola, could be a target but Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are likely challengers for his signature.

Negotiations and Potential Offers

According to reports from Teamtalk, Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta is keeping close contact with Alvarez’s representatives, looking for signs that the player would consider returning to the Premier League. The Gunners seem ready to make a significant financial offer if Alvarez signals interest.

The current British transfer record is held by Liverpool's £125m signing of Alexander Isak, but Arsenal appears prepared to exceed that figure to secure Alvarez’s services. Discussions may involve an exchange, possibly including Viktor Gyokeres plus cash, although Atletico reportedly prefers players like Gabriel Jesus or Gabriel Martinelli in any swap deal.

Challenges Ahead

Alvarez is thought to favor Barcelona, with ongoing talks between him and the Catalan club. Despite this, Arsenal believes personal terms will not be a major hurdle and is ready to meet Atletico’s valuation. The main obstacle might be persuading Alvarez to opt for a Premier League return over staying in Spain.

Atletico may also prefer selling Alvarez abroad rather than strengthening a domestic rival like Barcelona. Should the Argentine striker agree to join Arsenal, the club could land one of the summer’s headline transfers, reinforcing their attacking options significantly.
