Arsenal’s summer rebuild is starting to take on a familiar shape. Another window, another move for a rising talent from Club Brugge.

Barely weeks after bringing in winger Christos Tzolis from the Belgian side, Arsenal are now tracking defender Joaquin Seys, a £30 million-rated full-back who has quickly become one of Europe’s more intriguing young options in that position.

This is not a casual glance. Arteta’s staff have compiled what is described as a detailed scouting dossier on the Belgian international, with multiple live checks on his performances for Club Brugge and on the international stage. Those reports have now reached the head coach’s desk.

Arsenal’s need is clear. As they prepare to defend their Premier League title, Arteta wants a different profile at full-back – someone who can add both security and variety down the flank. Seys, who impressed representing Belgium at this summer’s World Cup, fits that brief: young, athletic, and already tested at the highest level.

But this is no open goal.

Manchester United are firmly in the race and, at this stage, may be the most aggressive suitor. After seeing an initial move for Lewis Hall rejected by Newcastle United, who have made it clear the left-back is not for sale, United have turned their attention to Seys as an alternative solution to a long-running problem area.

The Old Trafford club are looking for a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw, while also trying to reinforce other parts of the squad ahead of their Champions League return. The reported £30m price tag is not expected to scare them off.

Arsenal and United are not alone either. Newcastle, Aston Villa and Portuguese giants Benfica and Porto are all credited with interest in Seys, who has three years left on his current Brugge deal. The Belgian club are under no pressure to sell and know they hold a valuable asset in a seller’s market.

For Aston Villa, the equation is straightforward. Lucas Digne’s return to PSG has left Unai Emery short at left-back, and Seys has emerged on their list as a possible successor. For Benfica and Porto, this is the kind of profile they have built entire recruitment models around: sign young, polish, and either compete or cash in.

Amid the noise, Arteta has been consistent about Arsenal’s stance. He wants quality, not quantity.

“Well, that's what we're trying to do,” he told reporters when asked about further business. “If we have the right player in the market to make us much better. We are very looking forward to that.”

The message is simple: Arsenal will move, but only if they are convinced Seys is the one who elevates the squad, not just pads it out.

Brugge, for their part, can wait. Seys is tied down, his reputation is rising, and the list of admirers is growing by the week. Every strong performance strengthens their hand.

So the stage is set. Arsenal, United, Newcastle, Villa, Benfica, Porto – all circling the same name, all weighing the same £30m question.
