Arteta Agrees New Arsenal Deal with Major Pay Rise

Mikel Arteta has committed his future to Arsenal, reaching agreement on an improved new contract with the Premier League champions.

The Spaniard’s existing deal was due to run out at the end of this season, and negotiations have been rumbling on for months behind the scenes. An agreement was described as “close” earlier in the month. Now it’s done.

The club have yet to confirm the exact length of the contract, but the extension is expected to carry Arteta into at least his 10th year in charge, stretching well beyond the landmark he will reach in December 2029 after arriving in December 2019.

The new terms bring a significant financial upgrade. Arteta’s previous package was worth around £10m a year, with a further £5m available in bonuses. The fresh deal includes a sharp increase on that salary, underlining Arsenal’s determination to lock in the man who has turned them into champions again.

“They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I'm extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with,” he said.

Now the paperwork matches the sentiment. Arsenal have their title-winning manager tied down for the long haul, and the project that began in 2019 is set to run deep into the next decade.
