Aston Villa Predicted Lineup and Updates Ahead of PSG Clash in UEFA Super Cup

Aston Villa will take on PSG at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg this Wednesday evening for the UEFA Super Cup. This match offers Villa a chance to add another European trophy to their collection after winning the Europa League final in Istanbul back in May.

Under Unai Emery, Villa secured a 3–0 victory over Freiburg in that Europa League final — their biggest night in Europe since lifting the European Cup in 1982. A win in the Super Cup would mark a remarkable double for the club and cement their status among Europe's top teams.

Emery has yet to win a Super Cup as a manager, having lost all three previous attempts. Notably, one was a 5–4 defeat to Luis Enrique's Barcelona when he managed Sevilla. Interestingly, he faces the same opponent, the same manager, and the same trophy this time around.

Injury and Availability Concerns

Villa will be without three confirmed absentees. Amadou Onana suffered an ACL injury during the World Cup, ruling him out for a long period. Johan Manzambi, who joined Villa this summer for a club-record fee, is sidelined with a knee issue and won't feature in Salzburg. Leon Bailey is also out with a muscle problem.

Aside from those absences, fitness doubts linger over Emiliano Martínez, Ezri Konsa, and Ollie Watkins, all returning recently from deep World Cup campaigns with Argentina and England. John McGinn is under observation for a knee problem.

“We've still got the same hunger and desire to go and achieve more.” – Villa captain ahead of the Super Cup, August 11, 2026

Alejandro Garnacho picked up a facial injury during pre-season against BG Pathum United, so his participation remains uncertain. On a positive note, Boubacar Kamara played a full 90 minutes against Bayern Munich in a pre-season match, showing signs of readiness.

Likely Starting Lineup

With Martínez probably out, Marcel Bizot is set to start in goal. The full-back roles should be covered by Matty Cash and Ian Maatsen, while Victor Lindelof and Pau Torres form the central defensive pair. New signing Joao Gomes, arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers, is expected to debut in midfield alongside Kamara.

Creativity in attacking midfield will come from Emiliano Buendía, and if fit, Garnacho will play on the left wing. Villa’s experienced players will need to stay disciplined against a high-scoring PSG side.

  • Formation: 4-4-2
  • Goalkeeper: Bizot
  • Defenders: Cash, Lindelof, Torres, Maatsen
  • Midfielders: Hemmings, Kamara, Gomes, Buendia
  • Forwards: Garnacho, Watkins
