Aston Villa Signs Wan-Bissaka on Loan as Transfer Window Progresses
Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign West Ham defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, adding another high-profile name to a summer that has been anything but quiet in the Midlands.
The DR Congo right-back is set to move to Villa Park on an initial loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. He has been granted permission to travel to the Midlands for a medical, with only the finer details of the agreement still to emerge.
West Ham had previously been asking interested clubs to meet a £25m price tag, but the exact structure of Villa’s obligation has not been disclosed.
Wan-Bissaka, 28, has sat out West Ham’s opening two Championship fixtures while talks progressed, a clear sign that both club and player were ready for a change. Now the move is on the brink of completion, handing Villa a specialist right-back with Premier League pedigree.
West Ham reshape, Villa reload
The deal comes in a summer of heavy churn at West Ham. The club have already sanctioned two major exits, with Mateus Fernandes joining Tottenham for £85m and Crysencio Summerville leaving for £60m. Amid the departures, captain Jarrod Bowen has committed his future with a new contract, a crucial anchor in a squad being rapidly reshaped.
Villa, though, are telling a different kind of financial story.
They have sold Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for £117m, a headline departure that has underpinned one of the most calculated windows in the division. After factoring in sales, Villa currently boast the lowest net spend in the Premier League, at around £110m, despite a steady stream of arrivals.
That number underlines the strategy. Villa are not just spending; they are trading aggressively and, so far, effectively.
Building a new core
Wan-Bissaka joins a list of smart, targeted additions. Villa have already brought in midfielders Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes to stiffen the centre of the pitch, while Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has arrived on a loan with an obligation to buy, adding pace and directness out wide.
At the back, highly rated young centre-back Modou Keba Cisse has been added to the defensive unit, a nod to both the present and the future.
Now comes Wan-Bissaka, a defender known for his one‑v‑one duels and recovery tackles, stepping into a side that has quietly rebuilt itself while keeping the books in check.
For Villa, this is not just another signing. It is another piece in a squad being constructed with clear intent. The question now is simple: with the deals done and the numbers balanced, how high can this team climb?
