Bangladesh Football Federation Reshuffles Domestic Calendar Amid Registration Crisis

The Bangladesh Football Federation has been forced into another reshuffle of the domestic calendar, with the 2026-27 Bangladesh Football League and Federation Cup both pushed back as three major clubs remain under FIFA transfer bans.

Bashundhara Kings, Abahani and Young Men's Fakirerpool Club have still not managed to lift their FIFA player registration sanctions, despite multiple deadline extensions. The knock-on effect is now shaping the entire season.

New deadlines, new kickoff dates

In a letter to participating clubs, BFF set 3 September 2026 as the final deadline to complete first-phase player registration for the league. Miss that, and clubs risk going into the new campaign undercooked or incomplete.

The domestic season, originally slated to start on 25 August, will now kick off on 18 September. The Federation Cup, which had been scheduled for 28 August, has been pushed to 22 September.

Cup fixtures will be spread across Munshiganj, Manikganj, Gopalganj and the National Stadium in Dhaka, taking top-flight football beyond the capital while the calendar squeezes around international and continental commitments.

National team squeezed into tight window

The changes come with a FIFA international window looming from 21 September to 6 October. To keep the national team on track, BFF has instructed that the national camp begin on 27 August, even as clubs scramble to finalise squads and navigate bans.

So, while the league start moves back, the national team work starts early. Coaches will have to balance incomplete club squads, late registrations and travel demands in a window that already looks crowded.

Fortis FC’s Asian duty adds another wrinkle

As if the schedule was not already stretched, Fortis FC’s involvement in the AFC Challenge League adds another break in domestic action. The group stage of the continental competition is set for 17 to 23 October in Kuwait.

BFF has confirmed that all league and Federation Cup matches involving Fortis will be slotted in only after the completion of the first phase of the Bangladesh Football League. That means another layer of fixture congestion later in the campaign.

The calendar is now in place. The question is whether the clubs under FIFA sanctions can move quickly enough to match it.
