For Barcelona, a sale at that level would effectively recover their initial outlay. With much of the original transfer fee already amortised, the operation would still generate a meaningful accounting profit. It would also clear significant space on the wage bill, a key factor for a club still wrestling with financial constraints and planning further moves before the window shuts.

Deco and Campos hold the keys

One element working in favour of a swift resolution is the relationship between the two sporting directors. Deco at Barcelona and Luis Campos at PSG maintain a strong professional understanding, and both know the value of moving quickly once a player has made up his mind.

Barça now expect formal negotiations to begin as soon as Ferran’s intention to leave is officially communicated. PSG, for their part, are preparing a proposal they believe can tempt the Catalans away from their €65m stance without sparking a drawn-out saga.
