Bayern Munich Stalls on Feyenoord's Read as Man City Shows Interest

Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Feyenoord full-back Read has hit a familiar snag: the price tag.

Talks between the player’s camp and the German champions have stalled, with the transfer fee emerging as the decisive fault line. Feyenoord are holding firm at around €30 million, a bold valuation for a teenager still piecing together a consistent body of work at the very top level.

Bayern see the talent. They also see the risk.

Read has been battling a persistent thigh problem that has kept him out since late November, save for a brief substitute appearance against Alkmaar. That injury record is making the Bavarian hierarchy think twice about committing to such a heavy investment, even for a profile they badly need.

On the pitch, the numbers show why Europe’s elite are circling. In 53 Eredivisie appearances, Read has produced 16 goal contributions — five goals and eleven assists — from full-back. He has already tasted both Champions League and Europa League football, looking every inch the modern, attack-minded defender who can drive a team up the pitch rather than simply patrol a flank.

That blend of youth, output and European experience is rare. It is also expensive.

And now the market has shifted again. As reported by Bild and Sky Sports, Manchester City have stepped into the frame. The Premier League champions are closely tracking the 19-year-old in the final stretch of the season and are weighing up a move of their own.

If City decide to accelerate, the dynamic changes instantly. Feyenoord know they hold a strong hand: Read is tied to a long-term contract in Rotterdam until 2029. Any bidding war, especially with City involved, only strengthens their position and pushes that €30 million figure closer to a starting point than a ceiling.

Liverpool, previously linked with the right-back, opted against a move in the winter window. They may yet regret leaving the stage early if Bayern hesitate and City pounce on a player who looks built for the next era of elite full-backs.
