Celtic Set to Break Transfer Record for Kasper Hogh

Celtic are poised to smash their transfer record with an £11million-plus move for Bodo/Glimt goal machine Kasper Hogh – a deal that underlines just how serious the champions are about raising the bar.

The Danish striker is set to arrive in Glasgow for a medical in the coming days, and if all goes to plan he will sign a lucrative long-term contract at Parkhead. No frills, no half-measures. This is a statement.

For Martin O'Neill, it is the clearest sign yet that the board are all-in behind his rebuild. The fee, which will rise with add-ons, eclipses the £11m paid for Arne Engels two years ago and resets the ceiling on what Celtic are prepared to spend to stay ahead of the pack.

And Hogh is no gamble.

At 25, he brings a ruthless record from Norway: 54 goals and 22 assists in 103 games for Bodo/Glimt, numbers that explain why Celtic have pushed beyond their previous limits. He stands 6ft 1in, leads the line with presence, and has already proved he can hurt the very best.

Last season he hit six goals in the Champions League as Bodo/Glimt surged to the last 16. The names on his hit list tell their own story: Sturm Graz, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Sporting Lisbon – and a cold-blooded double against Manchester City. This is a forward who doesn’t freeze when the lights are brightest.

At Parkhead, Hogh will spearhead a revamped £17m attack alongside fellow new arrival Camilo Duran, the £6m signing from Qarabag. Duran also found his range in Europe’s top competition last term, scoring five times and offering the kind of pace and movement that should dovetail with Hogh’s penalty-box instincts.

The timing is no coincidence. Celtic have accelerated their recruitment drive after Daizen Maeda’s move to Ipswich Town, a deal that has brought in an initial £8m with a further £2m in potential add-ons. One major attacker out, two big-money forwards in – the front line is being rebuilt, not merely patched up.

And the churn will not stop at the top end of the pitch.

Talks continue with Bundesliga side Paderborn over a £4m switch for midfielder Mika Baur, as O'Neill looks to add more energy and craft in the middle of the park. On the flanks, Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan has also been identified as a key target, with Celtic keen to inject extra width and unpredictability before the Champions League play-off next month.

The money is being spent, the squad is being reshaped, and the intent is unmistakable. With Hogh at the heart of it, Celtic are betting big that their next era will be defined not by caution, but by ambition on the biggest stage of all.
