Charlton Athletic Sign Timothy Ouma on Loan

Charlton Athletic have moved to sharpen their midfield with the signing of Kenya international Timothy Ouma on a season-long loan from Slavia Prague, securing an option to make the deal permanent.

At 22, Ouma arrives with a résumé that stretches far beyond his years. Nathan Jones has been tracking him for some time, and the Charlton manager made no attempt to hide his enthusiasm when the deal was confirmed, describing him as an athletic, technical midfielder with strong pedigree who will bring “real quality” to the middle of the pitch.

That rise took him to IF Elfsborg in Sweden’s top flight in the summer of 2022, a move that pushed him into European competition and a more demanding tactical environment.

In Sweden, he banked three seasons of top-level football and collected 13 Europa League appearances, a valuable education in the tempo and physicality of continental games. Those nights, often unforgiving for young players, hardened his game and broadened his range.

Slavia Prague stepped in next, sensing a player on an upward curve. Last season, they sent him to Lech Poznan, where he played his part in a title-winning campaign in Poland. A championship medal at 22 is no small detail; it speaks to a player accustomed to pressure, expectation and the need to deliver when the margins tighten.

Charlton now tap into that experience. For a club intent on climbing, adding a midfielder who has already sampled league titles and European competition feels like a deliberate move rather than a gamble.
