Como's Aggressive Pursuit of Chalobah Amid Chelsea's Defensive Overhaul

Como have come back to the table for Trevoh Chalobah, sensing an opportunity in Chelsea’s defensive overhaul and the pull of Champions League football.

On Friday, reports confirmed that the Serie A club have submitted a fresh bid to Stamford Bridge for the centre-back. The offer is clear and aggressive: €25m in guaranteed fees, with a further €5m in bonuses that are described as easily achievable, taking the total package to €30m.

This is no tentative enquiry. It is a move with intent.

Cesc Fabregas’s side have been circling Chalobah for much of the summer, at first in competition with Inter. That race now looks one-sided. Como are understood to be the club in pole position, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the new proposal is on Chelsea’s desk and that Chalobah is keen on the switch.

The player’s stance matters here. Chalobah has watched Chelsea’s plans evolve without him at the centre of them. Calciomercato.com report that an agreement in principle over his salary is already in place between Como and the defender, removing one of the main obstacles that so often stalls cross-border moves.

Chelsea’s own transfer business is driving the story. The London club have agreed a deal worth around €60m (£52m) for Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix, a signing that is expected to push Chalobah even further down the pecking order in West London. With minutes already at a premium, another high-profile arrival in his position makes the writing on the wall that bit bolder.

The contrast in trajectories is striking. Chelsea, who finished the 2025-26 Premier League season in 10th place, will not be in European competition next term. Como, on the other hand, can dangle the prospect of Champions League nights as they try to tempt a player who has tasted the latter stages of major tournaments but never quite nailed down a permanent starting role at Stamford Bridge.

For Chalobah, the decision is stark. Stay and fight for scraps at a club investing heavily in his replacement, or step into a project where he would be a centrepiece, under a coach in Fabregas who understands the demands of elite football and the pressures of life at Chelsea.
