The five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains under contract at Saudi Pro League champions Al-Nassr, with 12 months left on the most lucrative deal in the sport. For most players, that would signal the winding down of a career. For Ronaldo, it looks more like another chapter.

Chasing 1,000 and chasing time

He is still hunting numbers that once sounded like fantasy. The push towards 1,000 competitive goals sits front and centre, a target as audacious as anything he has set himself. The body may age, the standards do not.

There is also a more personal dream: sharing a professional pitch with his eldest son, Cristiano Junior. If the teenager can make the leap into senior football, Ronaldo is ready to stretch his own career further, to turn a backyard fantasy into a competitive reality.

Contracts that carry him into his mid-40s and beyond are on the table. His international story is not finished either. With 223 caps and 146 goals for Portugal, he has already redefined what a national-team career looks like. Yet Euro 2028 and a home World Cup in 2030 still glint on the horizon. No one around him is closing that door.

A rivalry with one last twist?

At some point, even for him, the boots will have to come off for good. When that day arrives, he may already be on another continent.

A move to the United States has long hovered in the background, with MLS and a potential reunion of his rivalry with Lionel Messi an obvious lure. California, with its sunshine and star power, looms as a natural landing spot. Ronaldo in Los Angeles, Messi in Miami: the script almost writes itself.

“The sky is the limit”

Former Manchester United team-mate Mikaël Silvestre, speaking to GOAL on behalf of BetVictor Online Casino, sees no ceiling.

“I think the sky is the limit for him. Everything that he touches or invests himself in becomes a successful business,” Silvestre said.

Ronaldo has not exactly hidden the idea. “I think he mentioned becoming an actor a while back when he was at the Dubai awards. He said he would want to become an actor. I think that's his next move. If Vinnie Jones can become an actor, a good-looking guy like Cristiano for sure can do the job.”

Silvestre is not alone in that view. World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit has already imagined Ronaldo under the lights, chasing different trophies.

“The surprise is why we don't see many more sports people in movies. We see rappers, we see influencers, we see so many well known people going into film but not sports people. Why?” Petit asked.

“We are entertaining people as well. In sport, we have the character for that. I know that Eric Cantona has been doing that, Vinnie Jones, David Ginola, as well as Frank Leboeuf, have done that. Why can't more do that?”

Petit believes Ronaldo has the presence to walk onto any set and own the room.

“I'm happy for Ronaldo. I think he has the charisma and the aura. Ronaldo is the most famous person on social networks. Can you imagine if he was in the middle of big Hollywood stars? He would have nothing to prove to those guys. He can say, ‘I know you're a big star, but I am Cristiano Ronaldo. I am probably one of the best players in football history. I am a billionaire. I won everything I could win in football. So who are you?’”

Then comes the punchline.

“The Oscars? One day. Honestly, you can make a movie on his life. I have never seen someone stronger than him mentally. This guy is the most powerful human being I've ever seen mentally.”

From Ballon d’Or to the Oscars?

An Oscar on Ronaldo’s mantelpiece still feels like a distant thought. So did 900-plus career goals once. So did a career that has stretched from Lisbon to Manchester, Madrid to Turin, Riyadh and beyond.
