Jamal Musiala Receives Driving Ban After High-Speed Crash

Jamal Musiala has been hit with a driving ban and a substantial fine after a high-speed crash on the A8 motorway left two people injured and caused damage estimated at around €200,000.

The incident dates back to April 13, 2025, when the Bayern Munich midfielder was driving an Audi RS e-tron GT towards Salzburg. The powerful electric car, capable of producing more than 600 horsepower, became the centre of a serious traffic offence that has now led to a criminal penalty for one of German football’s brightest talents.

Musiala, 23, was reportedly travelling with his younger sister when the crash occurred. According to investigators, he was clocked at 194 km/h in a 120 km/h zone.

The consequences were immediate and severe. During an overtaking manoeuvre, Musiala failed to notice a VW Golf travelling to his right. The cars collided, sending shock through a busy stretch of motorway and leaving the young star facing accusations of dangerous driving.

Florian Lindemann, spokesperson for the Munich I Public Prosecutor's Office, confirmed the findings of the investigation, stating that the “accused Jamal M., who was driving at excessive speed at the time, overlooked a car driving to his right, resulting in a collision.”

Inside that VW Golf were two passengers: a 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman. Both sustained minor injuries, but the impact of the crash and the speed involved left no doubt about the seriousness of the offence. Musiala, reports say, was visibly shocked and immediately went to check on the condition of the other occupants.

The financial damage was heavy. The total property loss from the collision has been put at around €200,000, underlining the scale of the incident as well as the cost of a split-second misjudgement at high speed.

The legal process has now run its course. On January 28, 2026, the Munich District Court issued a penal order against Musiala. Lindemann confirmed that the order, now legally binding, found the player guilty of negligent endangerment of road traffic and negligent bodily injury in two cases.

For the former Chelsea academy prospect, the punishment stretches beyond a financial hit. The court has stripped him of his driving privileges, a sanction that will keep him off the road for a significant spell. A spokesperson for the prosecutor's office clarified that “a new driving licence may not be issued to Musiala before the expiry of nine months from the time the penal order became legally binding,” meaning he will not be allowed to drive again until the autumn.

The player’s representatives have acknowledged the incident after it quietly moved through the legal system away from the glare of public attention. With the case now confirmed and the penalties in place, the story has finally emerged.

For Musiala, it is another blow in what has already been a punishing period of his young career.

The Bayern playmaker spent much of the 2025 campaign on the sidelines after a serious injury at the Club World Cup. A fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle marked the most significant physical setback of his professional life so far, derailing his season and testing his resilience just as he was cementing his status as one of Europe’s standout attacking midfielders.

He fought his way back, returning to action in January, only to suffer another scare with an ankle injury in March. Now, away from the pitch, he finds himself dealing with the fallout of a moment of recklessness on the motorway.

Musiala will continue to drive Bayern’s midfield ambitions, but for the next nine months, he will be getting to training and matches like everyone else—without a licence, and with a stark reminder of how quickly control can be lost, on and off the road.
