Morocco Loses Key Forward Ismael Saibari Ahead of France World Cup Quarter-Final

Morocco has encountered a major hurdle before their World Cup quarter-final against France, with star forward Ismael Saibari ruled out due to a hamstring injury. The Bayern Munich forward, recently signed for €50 million, exited just 22 minutes into Morocco's 3-0 win over Canada in the round of 16. Despite MRI scans in Boston indicating the injury isn't severe, Saibari won’t be ready for the upcoming match.

Coach Mohamed Ouahbi Confirms Absence

Morocco's head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, confirmed Saibari’s absence during his pre-match briefing. He emphasized selecting only fully fit players for the crucial encounter but expressed hope that Saibari might return if Morocco advances further.

"Everyone's available except Saibari; the match is too soon for him, although he's not out for the rest of the tournament, I hope. We will only pick players at 100%."

Morocco’s Depth Tested Without Saibari

Saibari’s injury is a heavy loss since he has been Morocco’s standout player, scoring three important goals and the decisive penalty that knocked out the Netherlands in the round of 32. Soufiane Rahimi is expected to step up as the lead forward. Ouahbi remains confident in his squad's ability to produce an upset despite missing their key attacker.

"Going far requires everyone’s contribution. Players not in the starting eleven know they can change the game when called upon. Our squad depth is a strength and gives us confidence."

Boston Match Carries Weight of Redemption

The quarter-final in Boston doubles as a chance for Morocco to avenge their 2022 World Cup semi-final exit to France. The defense received a boost with center-back Chadi Riad returning after missing the last game due to injury. Still, Morocco must play flawlessly to stop Kylian Mbappe and the French side, who are on a six-game winning streak in this tournament.
