Lewis Hall has left Newcastle United’s warm‑weather camp in La Manga with a minor injury, but it is the interest from Manchester that really follows him home.

The 21-year-old left-back, fresh from a breakthrough season on Tyneside, has emerged as a serious target for Manchester United this summer. Michael Carrick’s side lodged an initial enquiry, only to be knocked back quickly by Newcastle, who have no intention of turning this into another high-profile departure.

They have already waved goodbye to Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon in a turbulent window. Hall, they insist, will not be the next name out of the door.
