Pogba Faces New Injury Setback in Monaco Training Camp

Paul Pogba’s attempt to relaunch his career at AS Monaco has hit another painful bump in the road.

During a pre-season session at St George’s Park, the 2018 World Cup winner broke down in the middle of a simple passing drill. Witnesses saw the midfielder let out a cry before collapsing to the turf, bringing an abrupt end to his morning and silencing the session.

According to Maxi Foot, medical staff rushed to his aid and treated him on the pitch, before two members of Monaco’s backroom team helped him from the field. Team-mates watched on, visibly shaken, as one of the dressing room’s most experienced figures was led away.

For Pogba, 33, the timing could hardly be crueller. He had only just rejoined full group training after a long, stuttering spell blighted by physical problems. His pre-season minutes so far amounted to little more than a cameo, but there had at least been the sense of a slow, careful rebuild.

Head coach Filipe Luís had recently spoken with optimism about finally integrating the Frenchman properly into his plans, hoping to tap into the quality and leadership that once made Pogba one of Europe’s most influential midfielders. Instead, he now faces yet another climb back towards fitness, with the familiar questions about durability returning just as the new campaign looms.

Inside the club, this setback lands at a delicate moment. Monaco are finalising their preparations for the season, and senior figures had earmarked this pre-season as a decisive period for judging Pogba’s long-term role. His availability, or lack of it, was always going to shape decisions about the balance of the squad.

Now everything pauses for the medical scans. Only those results will reveal whether this is a short interruption or the start of another extended absence. Until then, there is little for Pogba or the coaching staff to do but wait and hope.

On the pitch, Monaco must quickly adjust. With one of their biggest names back in the treatment room, the staff are forced to rethink their midfield options and rotation plans for the opening fixtures. The focus turns to others to carry the load while Pogba begins yet another rehabilitation programme.

Whether this proves to be a brief scare or a more serious blow will define the next chapter. For a player of his pedigree, the question now is stark: how many more of these chapters can his body – and his career – withstand?
