Real Madrid Plans €150m Bid for Michael Olise
Florentino Pérez is preparing to stake his re-election on another galáctico era – and Michael Olise is at the heart of the plan.
If Pérez secures another term as Real Madrid president in this weekend’s election, the club are ready to launch a €150m (£130m) bid for the Bayern Munich winger, a move designed to jolt the Bernabéu back into its favourite habit: signing superstars at the peak of their powers.
Election politics, Madrid-style
This is not a quiet presidential campaign. Pérez is expected to see off challenger Enrique Riquelme, whose headline pledge has been a move for Erling Haaland – a promise so bold it has drawn the threat of legal action from Manchester City.
Both men have tried to weaponise the transfer market. Riquelme with Haaland. Pérez with the promise of a “gálactico-level” signing next week, a vow he made to the Spanish media on Thursday.
He publicly denied that he was talking about Olise. Behind the scenes, the picture is very different. Madrid’s hierarchy have identified the Bayern winger as their primary target for the summer, the player they believe can reshape their attack and excite a fanbase restless after two trophyless seasons.
There is admiration at the Bernabéu for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Joao Neves as well, but if Pérez stays in power, the expectation inside the club is clear: the main push will be for Olise.
Olise’s rapid rise
Olise has not needed long in Germany to change his status. The former Crystal Palace winger has been electric since joining Bayern in 2024, morphing from Premier League promise into one of the most feared wide forwards in Europe.
He has driven Vincent Kompany’s side to back-to-back Bundesliga titles, delivering the kind of end product and consistency that turns interest into obsession at a club like Madrid. This summer he is set to be a key figure for France at the World Cup, another stage on which to underline his claim to belong among the elite.
At 23, with a long contract and a growing aura, he fits the modern Madrid template perfectly: young enough to dominate a decade, good enough to change games now.
Bayern dig in
Bayern, though, are not in the mood to sell. Olise is tied to the German champions until 2029 and the club are braced for a fight to keep him.
The tension has already flickered into the open. José Mourinho, whose return as Madrid manager will be finalised if Pérez wins the election, made his intentions plain by appearing in the stands for last month’s German Cup final, when Bayern beat Stuttgart. He was there to watch Olise, and everyone knew it.
The response from Munich was immediate and firm. Uli Hoeness, Bayern’s honorary president, labelled Olise “unsellable”, a word chosen to slam the door before Madrid can even knock.
Yet Madrid have a long history of pushing on doors others insist are locked. A €150m offer tests not only Bayern’s resolve but also their long-term planning. Keep a cornerstone of the project at all costs, or cash in at a peak price and try to rebuild on the fly?
Madrid’s looming rebuild
For Madrid, the summer ahead already looks seismic. Two years without a trophy is an eternity at the Bernabéu, and the club have moved early to reshape the squad.
Deals are already in place for Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer and for Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries from Internazionale, adding power and depth to a back line that has creaked too often.
Those moves feel like groundwork. Necessary, sensible, structural. Olise would be something different. A statement. A throwback to the days when Pérez’s Madrid did not just buy players – they bought eras.
Now the election will decide whether he gets the chance to do it again, and whether Bayern can hold their nerve as the first serious bid for one of their new stars looms on the horizon.
