Southampton Squad Faces Injury Setbacks Before German Training Camp

Southampton will head to Germany without Caspar Jander, Finn Azaz and Sam Edozie after the trio were ruled out of the eight-day pre-season trip through injury.

All three have picked up minor knocks and will stay behind at the Staplewood training ground for treatment while the rest of the squad flies out. The club is not treating the issues as serious, but the timing is far from ideal with the new campaign closing in.

Jander’s setback came in the first friendly of the summer, when the midfielder was forced off during the game against Eastleigh last Saturday. His absence, alongside Azaz and Edozie, trims some of the creative and energetic edge from the travelling group at a stage when players are fighting for early-season places.

Tonda Eckert will still take a 29-man squad to Germany, where Southampton face Eintracht Braunschweig and Preuben Munster on either side of a week-long training camp in North Rhine-Westphalia. The trip is designed to sharpen fitness and tighten structure, but it will now also serve as an early test of the squad’s depth.

For Jander, Azaz and Edozie, the focus is simpler: recover, rebuild sharpness and be ready when the competitive action starts.

Once the squad returns from Germany, Southampton move straight into their EFL Cup campaign with a tie against Colchester United, before opening their Championship season away at Watford. The clock is ticking, and every missed session now could echo once the real games begin.
