Tottenham Sign Andy Robertson on Free Transfer

Tottenham have moved decisively in the market, confirming the signing of Andy Robertson on a free transfer and prising one of Liverpool’s modern greats away from Anfield at the end of his contract.

The Scotland captain, who made 378 appearances for Liverpool, will join Spurs on 1 July after opting to end a hugely successful spell on Merseyside. The move had been brewing for months. Tottenham pushed hard in January and were close to getting their man, only for Liverpool to block the switch when they failed to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma.

That collapse felt like the end of the story. It wasn’t.

Managers changed in north London, the project shifted, but the interest never cooled. Roberto De Zerbi, now in charge at Spurs, has wasted no time in putting his stamp on the squad and has given the deal his full backing, seeing Robertson as a cornerstone of his rebuild rather than a short-term patch.

“Andy is someone I've admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team,” he said. “He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch. I can’t wait to start working with him and seeing the positive impact he will have on everyone around him.”

For Tottenham, this is about more than signing a left-back. It is a statement that they want hardened winners in the dressing room, players who know what it takes to live at the top of the Premier League and in Europe, and who carry that edge into training every day.

For Robertson, it is the start of a new chapter in a league he knows as well as anyone. He arrives in north London with medals, scars, and a reputation forged in some of the fiercest battles English football has seen over the last decade.

The question now is simple: how far can his experience drag this Tottenham side towards the level he has lived at for years?
