Vincent Kompany Begins New Era at Bayern

The holiday is over at Säbener Straße. FC Bayern reported back today to begin preparations for the 2026/27 season, and for the first time it is Vincent Kompany setting the tone.

Not everyone is there yet. The World Cup has scattered much of Bayern’s senior core across the globe, and those players will be eased back in over the coming weeks. But the new coach already has a first working group on the pitch: Sven Ulreich, Tom Bischof, João Palhinha, Bryan Zaragoza, Sacha Boey and Arijon Ibrahimović are all available from day one.

Others are still on a different clock. Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl, David Santos Daiber and Cassiano Kiala remain in rehab programmes and will be reintroduced to full training step by careful step. No shortcuts, no risks, not with a long season ahead.

World Cup stars on a delayed runway

Before Kompany can truly see his full squad, the medical and fitness teams get their turn. Performance diagnostics come first. The bulk of the World Cup contingent, including the Germany internationals, are scheduled for tests on 27 and 28 July. From there, they will filter directly and individually into Bayern’s training camp at the Tegernsee.

The flow continues in waves. Luis Díaz, Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić are due to link up with the group before Bayern board the plane for the Audi Summer Tour to Jeju and Hong Kong on 1 August. Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano will have to wait a little longer; their return is pencilled in for after the Asia trip.

They will not be alone. Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Ismael Saibari, as well as Gnabry and Karl, are also scheduled to come back into the fold at that point, working in Munich while the rest of the squad completes its tour.

Tegernsee, open doors and a familiar friendly

The first real glimpse of Kompany’s Bayern will come at Tegernsee. From 27 to 30 July, the club will set up camp by the lake, a setting that has often marked the start of serious work for previous coaches. This time, the doors are open: there will be a public training session every day at 15:30 CEST, offering fans a close look at the early drills, the new ideas and the first on-pitch conversations between coach and players.

The camp closes with a ritual that Bayern supporters know well. On 30 July, the German champions face FC Rottach-Egern in a friendly that has become a quirky fixture of pre-season. As in past years, the match will be shown via a free live stream on the club’s official channels, turning a local outing into a global viewing.

It is only pre-season. It is only testing, running, meetings, and a gentle kick-off against regional opposition. But for Kompany and Bayern, these next days at Tegernsee mark the first real steps in answering the only question that matters in Munich: how quickly can this new regime turn preparation into trophies?
