Zamalek Dismisses Fattouh Transfer Rumors Amid Saudi Links

Ahmed Fattouh is going nowhere. That is the clear message coming out of Zamalek, despite a swirl of reports from Saudi Arabia suggesting Al-Fateh are preparing a move for the Egypt international left-back.

The rumours gathered pace after Fattouh’s strong displays with the national team at the recent World Cup, his form drawing admiring glances and headlines in the Gulf. A move to the Saudi Pro League felt like a familiar storyline: standout tournament, big-money interest, a club under pressure to sell.

Not this time.

Media pundit Ahmed Shobier used his radio programme to slam the brakes on the speculation, describing the Al-Fateh links as “journalistic” noise rather than anything concrete. From what he has been told, Zamalek are not entertaining offers. They do not want to sell, and they do not intend to.

Shobier underlined both sides of the equation. Yes, Fattouh’s stock has risen. Yes, his World Cup performances were “wonderful” and only reinforced the view inside Egypt that he is among the standout players in his position. That form is precisely why his name is circulating.

But inside Zamalek, the calculation is different. They see a key piece of their project, not a market opportunity.

The club’s left flank is well stocked on paper. Mahmoud Bentayeg is in the squad. Echo has renewed his contract. Ahmed Khodary, who stepped in last season and proved he can handle the shirt, is also available. It is a trio that gives the coaching staff options and depth.

Yet Fattouh is more than just another name on that list.

Head coach Moatamed Gamal has leaned on him in multiple roles in recent months, trusting his versatility as much as his engine. That tactical flexibility has only increased his importance to the technical staff, who now view him as a pillar rather than a position.

His World Cup form did not put him in the shop window. Inside Zamalek, it only tightened the grip.

Shobier made that point bluntly, stressing that Fattouh’s performances for Egypt have boosted his “technical value” to the club. From his perspective, the debate is already over. The pundit went as far as to say he is “one million per cent” sure Zamalek will not sanction a departure, calling the matter settled.

So while Saudi newspapers link Al-Fateh with a move and transfer talk bubbles away, the message from Cairo is firm: this is speculation, nothing more.

Zamalek, for their part, have moved on to more immediate concerns. The squad continues its pre-season camp, sharpening fitness and rhythm with a run of friendlies as the new campaign looms into view.

The first real test comes soon enough: Al-Ittihad Al-Sakandary at Cairo International Stadium on 21 August. If Fattouh lines up on that left side as expected, it will say more than any transfer denial ever could.
