Zirkzee's Manchester United Exit: Juventus Leads Summer Interest

Joshua Zirkzee’s Manchester United chapter is already edging towards its final pages. The Dutch forward, once billed as a long‑term answer in attack, is now a live name on the summer market, with Juventus leading a growing list of suitors.

United are open to a sale. Zirkzee is open to a move. The only question left is where.

According to The Athletic, two unnamed Premier League clubs have sounded out his camp and checked on United’s position. Ajax also made an enquiry, testing the water after monitoring his situation. The Dutch club, though, have effectively stepped away from the table following the arrivals of Marcos Leonardo and Tolu Arokodare, their attacking rebuild already in motion.

That leaves the clearest path in Italy.

Juventus are pushing hard, working on a loan deal that would take Zirkzee back to Serie A. The 23‑year‑old has given his approval to the idea of a return, a move that would reconnect him with the league where his reputation truly took off.

When United paid £36.5 million to sign him from Bologna in 2024, it felt like a statement. Zirkzee arrived at Old Trafford off the back of a standout 2023‑24 campaign in Serie A, a technically gifted forward with the touch, vision and movement to knit an attack together. He was supposed to bring craft and unpredictability to a United front line that often looked blunt.

The Premier League has been far less forgiving.

Across the past two seasons, Zirkzee has managed just 19 starts in 56 league appearances, a stop‑start existence that has yielded only five Premier League goals. The talent is obvious, the rhythm has never truly been there. For a striker judged in headlines and numbers, those figures have weighed heavily.

Yet the spark hasn’t gone. Not entirely.

In pre‑season against Rosenborg, Zirkzee offered a reminder of why Europe’s scouts fell for him in the first place, scoring an excellent goal in a strong individual display. The touch was sharp, the finish assured, the confidence flickering back into view. It felt like a glimpse of the player United thought they were getting from Bologna.

Now the decision looms. Stay and fight for a role that has never quite been his, or step away and rebuild in a league that once suited him so well. Juventus are ready with an answer.

United, for their part, must decide how quickly they are prepared to draw a line under a costly bet that never fully landed.
