Alexander Isak's Stunning Start at Ipswich Town

Alexander Isak needed barely 10 minutes to rip up the script at Portman Road.

The Liverpool forward struck twice inside the opening nine minutes of Friday night’s trip to Ipswich Town, a blistering start that left the Tractor Boys stunned and the visitors in complete control almost before the game had settled.

Both goals carried the same signature: Cody Gakpo’s touch of class.

Still a Liverpool player after transfer interest from several clubs failed to prise him away from Merseyside before the deadline, Gakpo wasted no time reminding everyone why he was in demand. Dropping into a central pocket in the sixth minute, he slipped a clever pass to Isak on the edge of the area.

Isak did the rest.

He surged onto the ball, still with work to do, and showed the composure of a striker in form. A burst of close control took him around his marker, a sharp shift to his left opened the angle, and he swept a left-footed finish past Scherpen to make it 2-0 before Ipswich had even drawn breath.

The double took Isak to three goals for the season and pushed Gakpo’s tally to three assists, on top of his single goal. The numbers are starting to tell a story: one is emerging as Liverpool’s cutting edge, the other as the creative heartbeat behind him.

The early salvo also carved out a slice of club history. Isak’s brace was the fastest from the opening whistle by a Liverpool player since 2011, when Maxi Rodriguez hit Fulham with two goals in the first seven minutes. For Ipswich, it ranked among the quickest two-goal bursts they have ever conceded, a harsh lesson in the unforgiving tempo of Premier League football.

On a night that began as a test of Liverpool’s resolve away from home, Isak and Gakpo turned it into a showcase of timing, understanding and cold-blooded finishing. And with the season still stretching out ahead, that partnership already looks like a problem the rest of the league will have to solve.
