Barcelona Watches as Estevao Grows Frustrated with Chelsea Role Under Xabi Alonso
Estevao, the young Brazilian winger at Chelsea, is becoming increasingly frustrated due to limited playing time under manager Xabi Alonso. This situation has put Barcelona on alert as they monitor the possibility of signing the talented forward in upcoming transfer windows.
Struggles at Stamford Bridge
The 19-year-old has seen just 23 minutes across the first five Premier League matches this season, mainly appearing as a substitute. His only starts have come in the EFL Cup, leaving him feeling overlooked after a promising debut season adapting to English football. Estevao had hoped for a bigger role but now feels uncertain about his immediate future at Chelsea.
Tactical Differences with Alonso
Reports suggest a tactical disagreement has developed between Estevao and Alonso. The player prefers to operate centrally, moving away from his current right-wing position. That central spot is currently occupied by teammate Cole Palmer. Additionally, Estevao resists further muscle gain, fearing it would diminish his agility and speed, which are key to his style. Despite these tensions, he isn’t actively seeking a transfer, nor are his agents pushing for one.
Maintaining Professionalism Amidst Challenges
While representing Brazil in Australia, Estevao downplayed any conflict with his manager. He stayed diplomatic when asked about his limited minutes, emphasizing focus on hard work and patience.
"Every manager has their way of playing and, of course, I work every day and give my best. We have a lot of players with immense quality at Chelsea. I focus on what I can control. When I have a chance, I try to give my best," Estevao said.
Alonso has shown public support, assuring that Estevao will get more chances given his potential.
Barcelona’s Close Watch
Although Estevao isn't considering a move right now, Barcelona remains very interested. The club followed his progress during his time at Palmeiras but decided to back Lamine Yamal instead when Chelsea secured Estevao for €61.5 million. Barca’s sporting director Deco stays informed about Estevao’s situation at Chelsea, carefully observing developments at Stamford Bridge.
