Alexis Mac Allister Commits to Liverpool Amid Manchester City Interest

Alexis Mac Allister has turned his back on Manchester City’s interest and nailed his colours firmly to the Liverpool mast.

City sounded out the Argentina international as they scoured the market for midfield reinforcements, identifying him as a serious alternative to Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez. The answer from the Mac Allister camp was blunt: he’s not moving.

City reshuffle stalls on Enzo

It has been a summer of upheaval in the Man City midfield. Bernardo Silva is heading to Real Madrid on a free, Rodri is on course for a switch to Barcelona, and Tijjani Reijnders is set for Al Qadsiah. In their place, Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi have already arrived, with one more major addition targeted.

Top of that list is Enzo Fernandez. Enzo Maresca wants a reunion with the Chelsea midfielder, but the London club have drawn a hard line. They set a 5pm UK deadline for clubs to trigger a £120m deal: meet the valuation on time and Fernandez goes; miss it and Chelsea will shut the door until at least January.

Mac Allister’s camp shuts it down

The response came not from the player himself but from his father, former professional Carlos Mac Allister, and it left no room for doubt.

“My son will stay at Liverpool. We have not discussed any possibility of him leaving the club this summer,” he said, in quotes carried by Fabrizio Romano.

TEAMtalk then verified that City had indeed made contact over the Liverpool midfielder. The answer remained the same: thanks, but no thanks. Mac Allister and his representatives made it clear he is committed to Anfield.

This is not a player looking for a way out after a difficult 2025/26 campaign. Quite the opposite. According to insider Graeme Bailey, the 25-year-old sees the upcoming season under new head coach Andoni Iraola as an opportunity, not a problem.

“The midfielder is more than happy at Liverpool and is looking forward to working under new head coach Andoni Iraola, an inside source close to the player’s representatives has revealed,” Bailey reported.

Sources believe Mac Allister is convinced Iraola’s style and plans will suit him. He is said to be excited by the role he expects to play in the new manager’s system.

Liverpool ready to reward loyalty

Liverpool, for their part, are not taking that commitment lightly. The club are already weighing up an extension to Mac Allister’s current deal, which has just under two years left to run.

“Liverpool, meanwhile, are equally keen to keep Mac Allister and we understand the club already have plans in place to open discussions over a new contract later this year,” Bailey added.

The idea is simple: recognise his importance, improve his terms, and lock down a player they see as central to Iraola’s rebuild.

“For now, there is no desire from Mac Allister or his camp to pursue an exit, with the player instead focused on returning to work and becoming a key part of Iraola’s Liverpool side,” the report concluded.

City will move on and search elsewhere for the final piece of their midfield puzzle. Mac Allister, though, has made his choice. His future, at least for this summer, lies at Anfield.
