Alpha Cisse Shines for Milan but Awaits Italy Senior Call-Up

Alpha Cisse has lit up Milan’s season in flashes, but his leap to the senior Italy side will have to wait.

The 19-year-old has made a habit of announcing himself in Turin. Both of his goals for Milan have come there: the first against Torino, breaking the deadlock to open the Rossoneri’s campaign; the second at Juventus, again from a similar pocket of space, again after stepping off the bench and changing the game’s rhythm.

Those moments were enough to spark talk of a rapid promotion. Cisse has already appeared twice for Italy’s U21s, and his form pushed some to wonder if Roberto Mancini might fast-track him into the senior setup for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Not yet.

MilanNews report that Mancini is following Cisse closely, with technical director Claudio Ranieri also intent on tracking his progress. The player is firmly on the radar, just not on the senior team sheet.

For this international break, Cisse will remain with the U21s, where he is expected to be called up as they face Poland and Armenia. It is a sign that Italy see his development as something to be managed step by step rather than accelerated in one bold gesture.

An Azzurri debut still feels like a matter of time. His impact in Serie A, his age, his profile – all of it points in that direction. This window, though, offered a chance to send a stronger signal: that Italy were ready to break more decisively with old habits, to reward form and fearlessness in equal measure.

That statement has been delayed. The question now is how long Cisse can keep knocking before the senior door finally opens.
