Alyssa Thompson Named Player of the Match in Chelsea's Victory
Alyssa Thompson has been voted Player of the Match after a sharp, electric display in Chelsea’s 3-0 win in Sydney that closed out their pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia.
The USA international was at the heart of Chelsea’s best work in attack. She played a key role in the build-up to the first two goals, finished by Sandy Baltimore and Sjoeke Nusken, as Chelsea took control in front of a lively crowd.
The pressure Chelsea piled on was relentless, and Thompson never really let the Sydney defence breathe. Her direct running and movement kept the hosts pinned back, setting the tone for a dominant performance as the tour ended on a high.
The vote on the Chelsea Official App reflected just how tight the contest for the award was. Thompson edged it with 29 per cent, narrowly ahead of Baltimore on 27 per cent, while Lexi Potter – who struck the third goal – claimed 23 per cent.
A fine night for Chelsea. A standout one for Alyssa Thompson.
