Anthony Martial's Potential Return to Málaga: A Last Chance in LaLiga

Anthony Martial is closing in on a surprise return to Spain, with Málaga pushing to revive a career that has drifted alarmingly off course.

According to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato, the 30-year-old forward is in advanced talks with the Andalusian club, who are back in LaLiga this season after earning promotion in the summer. Aouna reported on X that discussions are “progressing” and that an agreement is “close” as Martial looks for a way back into top-flight European football.

For now, he is a free agent. Martial has been without a club for two months following the abrupt end of his spell at CF Monterrey, where his contract — originally set to run until mid-2027 — was terminated in July for reasons that have not been made clear. His time in Mexico never really caught fire: 20 appearances, one goal, three assists, and another chapter that ended too soon.

Málaga, meanwhile, are fighting just to keep their heads above water. Promotion brought them back into the glare of LaLiga, but the reality has been harsh. Three points on the board and 18th place in the table tell the story of a side still searching for rhythm and firepower. A fit and focused Martial would change the profile of their attack overnight.
