Watford have rolled the dice on a familiar Premier League face, confirming the signing of 36-year-old forward Antonio on a free transfer.

He later spoke with striking honesty about the impact of that night and its aftermath. Reflecting on the crash in March 2025, he admitted how deeply it shook him.

"I didn't want to be seen," he said. "I almost died and it made me embarrassed that it was that bad. I went to see the car three weeks ago and it gave me a weird feeling in my stomach. It was difficult to see."

Those are not the words of a player simply changing clubs. They are the words of a man who has had to piece himself back together before even thinking about defenders, tactics, or goals.

Now, though, Antonio arrives at Watford fully recovered and determined to show he still has the physical edge that made him such a handful in the Premier League. For the Hornets, it is a calculated gamble that looks shrewd on paper: no transfer fee, huge experience, and a proven record in English football.
