Mikel Arteta is “very, very close” to signing a new contract at the Emirates, with talks now at an advanced stage, according to Fabrizio Romano. Discussions between the club and Arteta’s camp are described as progressing smoothly, with an agreement expected that will cement the Spaniard at the heart of Arsenal’s long-term project.

It comes as the Gunners continue to move aggressively in the market. They have announced an agreement to sign Andria Bartishvili – already tagged as the “next Khvicha Kvaratskhelia” – and remain in the hunt for Kenan Yildiz, Julian Alvarez and Eli Junior Kroupi, while also being linked with Como talent Nico Paz.

Arsenal are also keeping a close eye on Rio Ngumoha’s situation at Liverpool. With Cody Gakpo established and Bradley Barcola arriving on Deadline Day, the young winger is staring at limited minutes on the left. Chelsea weigh up Madueke calls as January looms

Chelsea, never far from a transfer subplot, face a decision of their own.

Noni Madueke has struggled for minutes this season and two European heavyweights are circling. Tottenham: Richarlison stalemate and a new powerbroker

Richarlison’s failed move to Vasco da Gama on deadline day has been laid bare in new reporting from UOL journalist Bruno Braz. Spurs were ready to let the Brazilian forward leave, and Vasco were prepared to structure a permanent deal that would allow him to return abroad as early as January. They even offered a clause granting him an exit route after just a few months. Financially, Tottenham were satisfied.

The deal still collapsed.

Richarlison, Braz reports, refused to accept a permanent transfer. His preferred solution was to terminate his Tottenham contract entirely, then join Vasco only until the end of the year before reassessing in January. With that stance, and with previous moves to Everton and Trabzonspor also breaking down over personal terms, the 27-year-old is now stuck in limbo.

He reacted on social media after Roberto De Zerbi dashed hopes of a potential recall to Tottenham, leaving him facing up to four months without competitive senior football until the window reopens.

Behind the scenes, Spurs are preparing for a significant structural change. The club are said to be keen on appointing Piero Ausilio as their new sporting director ahead of January. Ausilio, who has spent more than 20 years at Inter, is understood to be closing in on a move to north London after a long spell working closely with Roberto De Zerbi.

His departure has already triggered change at Inter, with Dario Baccin promoted to sporting director. Baccin wants to make an early statement and has identified Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari as a potential target. Ayari’s contract runs until 2027, making him an appealing asset for the Italian side. The same report suggests Ayari may also be a profile Ausilio himself admires – a thread worth watching if and when he officially lands at Tottenham.

West Ham move in the loan market

West Ham have been busy tidying up the edges of their squad.

The club have confirmed that Ryan Battrum has joined National League side Southend United on a one-month loan, giving the youngster a chance at regular senior football. Not long after, they announced another temporary switch: Preston Fearon has signed for Forest Green Rovers on a three-month loan.
