Burnley arrive already condemned to the Championship, yet there will be no room for sentiment in the stands or on the pitch. Arsenal have given their supporters a season of relentless standards, and those same fans will demand one more full-throttle display under the Emirates lights.

The numbers against Burnley are emphatic. Arsenal have lost just once in 19 Premier League meetings with the Clarets, and recent form points in only one direction. The stadium is expected to crackle with that knowledge, the sense that the club is edging towards not just one, but potentially two major trophies before the summer.

For Burnley, this is a familiar kind of pain. A third relegation in five seasons tells its own story. Scott Parker paid the price when the drop was confirmed earlier this month, with Mike Jackson once again stepping in as interim manager to steer the club through the final weeks.

Arteta leans on the crowd

Mikel Arteta has spent much of this season talking about mentality, about resilience under pressure. He did so again before this game, praising a squad that has survived the grind of an “extremely demanding” title race and stayed in stride with City.

He knows, though, that the players are not alone in this. He called on the Emirates crowd to produce another surging, suffocating atmosphere, the kind that has turned this ground into a genuine fortress. The opportunity, he admitted, is enormous. The margin for error is not.

Across the technical area, Jackson has been keen to stress that Burnley will not simply make up the numbers. He pointed to last weekend’s battling draw against Aston Villa as evidence that his players have not mentally checked out, even with their fate already sealed. Pride, contracts, futures: there is always something on the line for a relegated side.

Injury worries and returning faces

Arsenal’s push to the finish comes with familiar defensive concerns. Ben White’s season is over after a knee ligament injury, a significant blow for a player who has been a constant presence in Arteta’s back line. Jurrien Timber remains out as his long-term recovery continues, denying Arsenal another option in a key area.

There is at least one positive note. Riccardo Calafiori has returned to training after being forced off against West Ham, offering hope that he can feature in some capacity. Mikel Merino, however, stays sidelined with a long-term foot injury and will play no part.

Burnley may be boosted by the return of Hannibal Mejbri, withdrawn as a precaution last weekend and now in contention to rejoin the squad. For a team so short on results, even small lifts matter.
