Arsenal Initiates Talks with Galatasaray for Martinelli and Nwaneri
Arsenal have opened the door to Galatasaray over a cluster of potential departures this window, with Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri among the names placed on the table.
The Turkish champions have made a verbal offer of around €45m (£38.5m) for Martinelli, a figure that underlines how highly the Brazil international is rated across Europe. The number is serious. The enthusiasm from the player is not.
Sources indicate there is clear reluctance from the 25-year-old to move to Turkey at this stage of his career, despite Arsenal’s willingness to listen to proposals. For now, the winger is in no rush to swap north London for Istanbul.
Nwaneri, one of the brightest talents to emerge from Arsenal’s academy in recent years, has also been mentioned in conversations between the clubs, as the Gunners explore ways to reshape and streamline Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The talks have not been limited to Arsenal’s outgoings. During discussions, the future of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has also been raised, adding an intriguing layer to what began as a conversation about squad players. Any concrete move for the forward would be complex and expensive, but his name being discussed at all signals the scale of ambition in play.
Martinelli had drawn tentative interest from Paris St-Germain earlier in the summer, yet the French champions have since switched their attention to other targets, leaving Galatasaray as the most active suitor so far.
Arsenal are clearly ready to negotiate. The question now is whether any of the players they have invited offers for are ready to follow.
