Arsenal Signs Liverpool Starlet Vincent Joseph: A New Forward in the Academy

Arsenal have struck an agreement with highly rated Liverpool youngster Vincent Joseph, moving to prise one of the most prolific teenage forwards in England out of Anfield and into their academy.

The 16-year-old striker has agreed to join the Gunners this summer, with the two clubs now locked in talks over a compensation package. Because of his age, Liverpool are entitled to a fee despite his contract expiring. If they can’t settle on a figure, a tribunal will decide what Arsenal must pay.

Joseph has wasted little time making a name for himself. He broke into u18 Premier League football for Liverpool last season and scored three goals in just two appearances. It was a sharp, clinical introduction at that level, the kind that usually leads to a new deal and a clear pathway. Instead, Joseph has chosen to walk away.

The decision comes against the backdrop of a ruthless scoring run for his country. Turning out for England u16s across the 2025/26 campaign, Joseph hit eight goals in nine games, underlining why top clubs across the league have been tracking his progress.

Arsenal have been searching hard for young centre-forwards. They lost out to Liverpool in the race for Will Wright last year, a setback that underlined how fierce the competition has become for emerging No 9s. This time, the roles are reversed.

The north London club have already agreed terms with Crystal Palace prospect Mylo Bernard and now with Joseph, bolstering a striking department that has been a clear focus of their academy recruitment.

That push doesn’t stop there. Arsenal have signed Elijah Upson from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, raiding another Premier League rival, and are set to complete a deal for Axel Donczew from Cardiff City.

Donczew is the only one of the quartet who was not out of contract, a detail that offers a glimpse into Arsenal’s strategy. They are moving quickly when negotiations break down elsewhere, ready to pounce on talented youngsters whose futures have stalled at their current clubs.

For now, the paperwork and formalities remain. Arsenal still need to finalise and announce the moves for Joseph, Bernard, and Donczew. But the pattern is clear: the Gunners are aggressively reshaping their next generation of forwards, and they’re doing it at the expense of their Premier League rivals.
