Arsenal Target Bradley Barcola as Cole Urges for More Attack Options
Arsenal have joined the chase for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, with former striker Carlton Cole insisting the Frenchman is exactly the profile Mikel Arteta still lacks on the left.
Barcola wants out of PSG and the French champions are ready to cash in at the right price, planning to recycle the fee straight back into their squad. That stance has triggered interest from across Europe, with Liverpool currently pushing hardest for his signature.
They have not got the deal over the line. Not yet. And that delay keeps the door ajar for Arsenal as the window ticks towards its close.
Liverpool lead, but Arsenal lurk
Liverpool’s interest has been the most concrete in recent weeks and they are well placed to strike first. But with no agreement in place, Arsenal remain in the conversation and are monitoring the situation closely.
Any serious move from the Emirates is likely to hinge on outgoings. If Arsenal can find a buyer for Gabriel Martinelli, the landscape changes. Space would open up on that left flank, and Barcola immediately becomes a live option rather than a distant target.
The 21-year-old would arrive with heavyweight pedigree. He has collected back-to-back Champions League titles in Paris, experience that would drop straight into a dressing room still learning how to cross the final line in major competitions.
For Cole, that combination of profile and pedigree makes the decision simple.
Cole: Arsenal “need another left-sided forward”
Speaking to the Metro, Cole laid out what he believes Arsenal’s squad still lacks before the window shuts.
“Bruno Guimaraes has come in, he's a brilliant player, and I still think they probably want one more signing before the window shuts. I know they're still trying to do a little bit of business. I think they need another left-sided forward, they're obvious in the running to sign Barcola; they need someone like that.”
Cole’s view is clear: despite a busy summer, Arsenal’s attack still needs another edge on that side of the pitch. Barcola, a natural left-sided forward, would hand Arteta a fresh option in the front line and add depth in an area that has carried a heavy workload in recent seasons.
A proven winner on the market
Arsenal have already strengthened their squad, but the chance to sign a Champions League winner in his early twenties is rare. Barcola’s pace, direct running and big-stage experience at PSG make him a tempting proposition for any club trying to bridge the final gap to major silverware.
Liverpool remain serious contenders and are well capable of closing the deal if they accelerate talks. Yet their hesitation so far offers Arsenal a sliver of opportunity.
For the Gunners, everything now rests on two questions: can they clear room in the squad, and will they put down a bid that tests PSG’s resolve?
If Barcola does walk away from Paris this summer, the battle for his signature will say plenty about which English club is truly ready to act like a contender in the market as well as on the pitch.
