Arsenal push ahead of rivals for Hinshelwood

Arsenal are reported to be in pole position to sign Brighton’s Jack Hinshelwood, edging ahead of Manchester United and Manchester City in the chase for the highly rated 21-year-old.

The Sun report that Mikel Arteta has marked the Brighton academy product as a “top priority” target, with the Arsenal manager said to view him as the “perfect addition” to his evolving squad.

Brighton, predictably, are in no rush to sell. Hinshelwood has three years left on his contract, giving the Seagulls a strong hand at the table, but the report suggests that an offer in the region of £43m to £51m could force serious talks.

Versatility that fits Arteta’s blueprint

Hinshelwood is primarily a defensive midfielder, but Brighton have used him higher up the pitch as well. That flexibility has not gone unnoticed.

Last season he chipped in with four goals and four assists in the Premier League, numbers that underline his ability to influence games at both ends. For a 21-year-old still learning his trade, that’s the kind of profile that appeals to a coach obsessed with multi-functional players.

He also carries the Brighton lineage. The midfielder is the son of former Seagulls player Adam Hinshelwood, another detail that will only strengthen the club’s resolve to drive a hard bargain.

Champions still hunting upgrades

Arsenal, fresh from ending a 22-year wait for the Premier League title, have not paused to admire their work.

This summer has already brought Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis, Piero Hincapie and Illan Meslier through the door, a mix of star power and structural reinforcement. Yet the recruitment drive is far from over.

The club are still in the market for a centre-back, a winger and potentially a striker. Hinshelwood, with his ability to operate as a No.6 or in a more advanced role, would add another layer of depth and tactical variety to a midfield already reshaped by the arrival of Guimaraes.

Centre-back search: Konsa leads, others ruled out

At the back, Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa remains a key name. One report on Friday even claimed the deal was “99% done”.

The brakes were quickly applied to that idea. Speaking on Saturday morning, Fabrizio Romano said Konsa “remains on Arsenal’s shortlist” and is “very appreciated” by the club, but stopped well short of confirming any agreement. Interest is clear; completion is not.

Arsenal have explored alternatives, but Romano has already shut down two of those avenues.

On Atletico Madrid defender Marc Pubill, he was blunt: “The player is not for sale. Atletico Madrid have no intention to sell.”

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah is also off the table. “Arsenal made official contact with Bayer Leverkusen… The answer from Leverkusen is that they don’t want to sell the player. So they rejected the approach,” Romano explained.

So the picture is sharp at the back: Konsa admired, Pubill and Quansah closed off.

A champion’s market

Arsenal’s summer is starting to look like the window of a club that understands how hard it is to stay at the summit. Established names, emerging talents, and now a serious move for one of Brighton’s most versatile prospects.

If they do push a bid into that £43m–£51m bracket for Jack Hinshelwood, the next question is simple: will Brighton bend, or will the champions be forced to look elsewhere for the next piece of Arteta’s puzzle?
