Arsenal Targets Victor Osimhen for Summer Transfer Move

Arsenal are exploring a blockbuster move for Victor Osimhen in the final weeks of the summer window – a deal that would send a jolt through the Premier League title race.

Mikel Arteta’s need for a new No.9 has been clear for months. Gabriel Jesus is edging closer to the Emirates exit, his role steadily reduced as Arsenal look for a more ruthless focal point. Viktor Gyokeres offered glimpses last season that he could grow into that role, hitting 21 goals in 55 appearances during the Gunners’ title-winning campaign, but the club are clearly still hunting a more devastating finisher.

For a while, that search seemed locked on Julian Alvarez. Arsenal have been circling the Atletico Madrid forward, testing the Spanish club’s resolve. But Atletico have refused to budge, batting away interest from Real Madrid and rejecting a €100m (£86.7m) offer from Barcelona. The message from Madrid has been blunt: Alvarez is not leaving on the cheap, if at all.

So Arsenal have turned their gaze elsewhere. And the name now dominating internal discussions is Victor Osimhen.

The Nigeria international, currently spearheading Galatasaray’s attack, has long been on the Premier League radar. Two years ago Chelsea held advanced talks with Napoli over a deal, only for the move to collapse. Instead, Osimhen went to Galatasaray, initially on loan, before the Turkish champions made the transfer permanent last summer for €75m (£64.8m).

He has been worth every cent. Osimhen has driven Galatasaray to back-to-back league titles, scoring 59 goals in 74 games and bullying defences across Turkey and Europe. Across his club career, the 27-year-old has racked up 173 goals in 297 appearances – numbers that scream elite No.9.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal have now placed him firmly on their radar during talks with Galatasaray. Those discussions initially focused on potential deals for Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri, but Osimhen’s name has been raised as part of wider negotiations between the clubs.

Galatasaray’s interest in Martinelli is real. The Turkish side have already lodged a €45m (£38.4m) bid for the Brazilian, who remains a popular figure at the Emirates. Any agreement there is complicated by Martinelli’s stance: he is understood to be unconvinced by a move to the Turkish league, a hesitation that could stall or even sink that particular avenue.

Nwaneri is a different story. Arsenal have reportedly offered the 19-year-old to Galatasaray for €40m (£34.1m), with a deal described as progressing between the two clubs. The teenager impressed on loan at Marseille last season and is seen as a high-upside asset, one who could help unlock a smoother path to Osimhen.

The irony for Arsenal is hard to ignore. Osimhen was offered to them two years ago, only for the club to walk away, fearing Napoli’s demands would spiral beyond reach. Now, with his value proven again in Turkey and his finishing profile perfectly aligned with Arteta’s needs, the door has swung open once more.

Crucially, Osimhen is thought to be open to the move. The idea of leading the line in north London, with a title-chasing side built to supply him, is said to appeal to the Nigerian. For Arsenal, as their pursuit of Alvarez runs into a brick wall in Spain, the route through Istanbul suddenly looks far more inviting.

If sporting director Andrea Berta can turn those conversations with Galatasaray into a concrete agreement, Arsenal’s attack – and the balance of power in the title race – could look very different by the time the window closes.
