Arteta Unfazed by Contract Talks Ahead of City Clash

Mikel Arteta walked into his pre-match press conference with Manchester City on the horizon and a contract saga humming in the background. He treated it like background noise.

Back in May, co-chairman Josh Kroenke made it clear that tying the Spaniard down to a new deal was a “top priority.” The clock has ticked towards the new season, the opener against City now just days away in Cardiff, but Arteta is not reaching for the panic button – and he does not want the supporters doing it either.

“They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that, because I want to be here. I am extremely happy,” he said, cutting through the speculation with a firm tone. “I feel very grateful to work with the people that I work with and when we have the possibility, we will resolve that. And that's it.”

The message was blunt: his future is not a problem, and it is certainly not the priority.

Right now, all eyes inside the club are on the market. Squads win titles, not signatures on the manager’s paperwork.

“There is always another priority, I think!” Arteta admitted with a smile. “And that's the way we have been treating it, I think because everybody feels comfortable that the time on the contract is not going to be an issue.”

So the energy stays on transfers, on shaping a group that can live with City over nine months, not just 90 minutes in Cardiff. Contract negotiations, by contrast, are being allowed to breathe.

Arteta made a point of stressing just how closely he is aligned with the hierarchy above him. No tension. No stand-off. No hidden power play.

“I think because my will, certainly, is to be here and I am very happy here,” he said. “My feeling from the club is the same one. That is why everyone is doing things in a really organic way.”

No countdown drama. No brinkmanship. Just a coach convinced he is in the right place, and a club that believes the same, as they walk into a season that will reveal whether shared vision can finally translate into major silverware.
