Arthur's Juventus Exit: Contract Termination Looms
Arthur’s Juventus chapter is almost over. Six years on the books, but it will not reach the final page.
The club are now pushing to rip up his contract rather than send him out on yet another loan. Arthur is tied to the Allianz Stadium until June 2027, but both sides are working on a mutual termination to clear the way for a clean break and a new club.
Sky Sport Italia report that Juventus and the Brazilian’s camp are in advanced talks to find an agreement that would see him leave before his deal naturally expires. For the Bianconeri, it fits a clear strategy: move on high earners who are not in the manager’s long-term plans. For Arthur, it ends a Turin spell that never truly caught fire.
From blockbuster deal to quiet exit
His arrival in 2020 was anything but quiet. Arthur landed from Barcelona in a deal worth around €80 million, with Miralem Pjanic heading the other way for €60 million. The move quickly became one of the most debated transfers in recent Serie A history, less for its tactical logic and more for its balance-sheet gymnastics.
On paper, it helped both clubs. On the pitch, it never lived up to the billing.
Arthur’s influence remained modest. He made 22 league appearances in his first season, then 20 in his second, without ever cementing himself as an undisputed starter. Injuries, competition for places and tactical doubts all chipped away at his role.
A career on the move
Once he slipped out of favour in Turin, the loans started to stack up. Liverpool. Fiorentina. Girona. Then a return home with Gremio. His career became a tour of temporary addresses across Europe and South America.
Gremio changed the mood. Back in Brazil, Arthur finally found rhythm and regular minutes, producing his most convincing run of form in years. The spell looked like a turning point, a chance to rebuild his reputation away from the European spotlight.
But the revival hit a financial wall. Gremio could not meet Juventus’ valuation, and the deal collapsed. Arthur returned to Continassa with no realistic route back into the first team and no permanent move lined up.
No way back in Turin
Pre-season removed any lingering doubt. Arthur was left out of the squad for the friendly against the Next Gen side, a clear message that he does not feature in the technical project going forward.
With no concrete loan offers and his salary proving a stumbling block for interested clubs, Juventus see a contract termination as the most practical escape route. The player wants a fresh start, the club want room on the wage bill.
A high-profile accounting transfer is now drifting towards a low-key exit. The only question left is where Arthur’s reset begins.
