Aston Villa Secure €55m Deal for Mbaye from PSG

Aston Villa have won the race for one of Europe’s most coveted teenagers, striking a €55m agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for winger Mbaye in a deal that underlines the club’s new ambition.

The fee matches the French champions’ valuation, and the transfer is now being finalised with the paperwork in motion. It is not done yet, but the hard part is over: the clubs have an agreement, and the player is on his way.

Behind the numbers, relationships mattered. The strong connection between Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi helped push the move over the line, smoothing negotiations for a player many expected to head elsewhere.

Liverpool were among the heavyweight suitors tracking Mbaye this summer. Others circled too. Villa moved first with conviction and refused to blink, turning interest into a concrete deal and pulling off one of the window’s most eye-catching signings. For Unai Emery, it is a footballing fit as much as a financial statement.

From Versailles to Paris – and now Birmingham

Mbaye’s rise has been rapid. He joined PSG from FC Versailles 78 in the summer of 2018 and shot through the academy ranks, quickly marking himself out as one of the standout prospects in the system.

In August 2024, at just 16, he made his senior debut for PSG. He did not just make up the numbers. By the time Villa came calling, he had already amassed 42 first-team appearances, with four goals and four assists to his name.

Last season he became a regular part of the rotation, playing 31 games in all competitions, scoring three times and adding two assists. Those numbers only tell part of the story. Mbaye also became the youngest player ever to start a competitive fixture for PSG, entrusted with 10 Ligue 1 starts and a Champions League start, a clear sign that he can handle the demands of elite European football.

A new star for Senegal

His rise has been just as striking on the international stage. Having represented France at youth level, Mbaye switched allegiance to Senegal and made his debut for the African champions in November 2025.

He has already collected 15 caps. He played six matches during Senegal’s triumphant 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, an early taste of major-tournament pressure. Then came the World Cup. Mbaye started three games at the 2026 tournament and scored in the group-stage clash against France on June 16 – a symbolic moment against the country of his birth and early development.

For Villa, that blend of club and international experience at such a young age is exactly what Emery wants: a fearless winger who has already faced high-stakes occasions and responded.

Villa’s bold rebuild gathers pace

This is not an isolated splash. It is part of a sweeping reshaping of the squad.

Aston Villa have been one of the most active clubs in this transfer window, already bringing in eight new signings before Mbaye. Nicolas Jackson is expected to become the ninth arrival as they reload for the coming campaign.

There has been a cost. Morgan Rogers has left for Chelsea in a £117m move, and Ollie Watkins has departed for Al Hilal, stripping Emery of two key attacking pieces. Mbaye is not a like-for-like replacement for either, but he arrives as a central pillar of the next iteration of Villa’s frontline.

A teenager with Champions League minutes, a continental trophy, a World Cup goal and a €55m price tag now steps into the Midlands spotlight. How quickly he turns potential into Premier League dominance will go a long way to defining what this new-look Aston Villa can become.
