Barcelona Aims to Finalize New Signings Before La Liga Opener

Barcelona believe the paperwork will not get in the way of their new era.

The club are increasingly confident that all of their summer recruits will be registered in time for Sunday’s 2026/27 La Liga opener against Elche, avoiding the kind of late-window drama that has dogged recent seasons.

According to SPORT, the registration process formally starts today, Thursday, giving the hierarchy a clear runway to push every deal over the administrative line before Hansi Flick names his first competitive squad as Barça coach.

Flick expects full attacking arsenal

Inside the club, the plan is simple: Flick should have every new first-team signing at his disposal for Elche.

Barcelona are currently operating under La Liga’s 1:1 rule, which means every euro saved or generated can be reinvested directly. It is a far more flexible scenario than the restrictive ratios that forced complex manoeuvres and delayed registrations in previous summers.

That does not mean it is just a case of sending a list of names to La Liga. Each player’s registration must be backed by detailed sporting and financial documentation, signed off and compliant. Barcelona want all of that wrapped up well before the opening whistle, not in a frantic rush on the eve of the game.

Among the headline additions expected to be registered are Rodri, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.

Rodri arrives as the marquee signing of the window, joining from Manchester City on a contract running until 2030 and immediately shaping up as a central figure in Flick’s project. Gordon was the first deal Barcelona closed this summer, setting the tone for a more aggressive market stance, while Adeyemi has been added to sharpen the attack even further.

Hamza Abdelkarim also features in the club’s planning after Barça exercised their purchase option on him, reinforcing the squad’s depth. Young prospect Jesse Bisiwu will be registered with the reserve team but is slated to remain around the senior setup, another sign of the club’s intent to blend big-name arrivals with emerging talent.

Cancelo and Christensen cases linger

Not every file is straightforward.

Joao Cancelo, the last to arrive, is viewed as the most delicate case. The Portuguese full-back joined later than the rest of the new signings, leaving the least margin for error on the administrative side and making his presence against Elche the only genuine doubt.

His situation places extra weight on Barcelona’s outgoing business. Space must be created, and quickly, for the club to push his registration through. Even so, the internal message remains upbeat: they believe they can open the necessary room and complete Cancelo’s registration without running into a major obstacle.

Another dossier that still needs attention is that of Andreas Christensen, whose status must also be aligned with La Liga’s requirements.

Barcelona, though, enter the final days before the season not in a panic, but with a clear plan: get every key piece registered, hand Flick a full deck, and start the new campaign without the shadow of unfinished business hanging over the squad.
