Barcelona’s hunt for a left-footed centre-back has taken an unexpected twist, with two of the most talked‑about names now definitively off the table.

Matteo Moretto has made it clear: Castello Lukeba and Goncalo Inacio are not the players Barça are working to sign.

Barça look beyond the obvious names

Hansi Flick wants a natural left-footer in his back line. The profile is seen inside the club as key to balancing the defence and giving the new coach another specialist option, rather than continuing to improvise with right-footers on the left side.

Reports in recent days pointed to a discreet operation, and Moretto has added an intriguing detail: the chosen defender does not play in Spain and is not a name that casual fans would immediately recognise.

That description pushed Castello Lukeba straight into the spotlight.

The RB Leipzig defender has been followed by Barcelona, and Flick is understood to appreciate the Frenchman’s ability to cover both centre-back and left-back. On paper, he ticks a lot of boxes.

But the trail stops there.

Lukeba ‘100%’ ruled out

Despite his qualities and previous links, Lukeba is not the mystery signing in the works.

Moretto has shut that door “100%”, insisting that Barcelona are not currently negotiating for the 23-year-old. Any suggestion that he is the hidden target can be put to bed.

It is not a question of fit. Lukeba’s versatility across the back line and his comfort on the left side would clearly strengthen areas Barça want to reinforce. In another window, under different conditions, he would look like an ideal candidate.

This time, though, the club’s search is pointed in a different direction.

Yet Moretto’s information is blunt. Inacio, like Lukeba, is not part of Barça’s current plan.
