Barcelona Nears €210 Million Deal for Rodri

The long, slow dance between Barcelona and Manchester City over Rodri is edging towards its final steps. Talks have dragged on for weeks, two bids have already been turned away, but both clubs now stand close enough on numbers for the deal to feel inevitable.

City, unmoved by the clock ticking down on the midfielder’s contract, have treated negotiations on their terms. Rodri has just one year left on his deal, yet the Premier League champions are still holding firm for a package worth around €80 million. Barcelona’s latest proposal is just below that figure, and a third offer is expected to land today.

A €210 million gamble

On paper, Rodri’s transfer fee will sit in the region of €75 million. For Barcelona, that is only the start of the bill.

According to Diario AS, the total outlay for the operation could climb to around €210 million once every layer of the deal is peeled back. The Catalan club are ready to hand the World Cup Golden Ball winner a net salary of €15 million per season on a four-year contract.

In Catalonia’s tax bracket, that explodes into a gross figure of roughly €34 million a year. Over four seasons, wages alone would reach about €136 million.

Add the transfer fee and commissions on top and the total package pushes towards that €210 million mark, and potentially beyond. For a club still juggling financial constraints, it is a bold, expensive bet on a midfielder they see as a long-term pillar of the project.

Between England and Barcelona

Rodri’s summer has been played out in public glimpses. His World Cup break is over, his future still isn’t. The midfielder was recently spotted boarding a flight back to England, a small but telling image in a saga that was supposed to end with him flying straight into Barcelona.

He has asked to skip training as negotiations move into their decisive phase. Whether he will actually report for pre-season with City in England remains unclear, and that uncertainty only adds to the sense that the deal is entering its final hours.

Rodri’s close relationship with several Barcelona players has long been part of the backdrop to this story. The dressing room would welcome him instantly; the club hierarchy is pushing hard to make sure that scenario becomes reality.

City’s clock is ticking too

One more twist adds urgency. Manchester City are pushing to sign Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez and face a deadline of under 24 hours to get that move over the line. That race against time could directly influence how quickly they are willing to finalise Rodri’s exit.
