Barcelona Pursue Pedro Porro as Defensive Solution

Barcelona have begun quietly redrawing their defensive blueprint, and the first sketch has a clear name on it: Pedro Porro.

With uncertainty hanging over Jules Koundé’s long-term future, the club have opened talks with the Tottenham full-back’s camp, sounding out the possibility of a summer move. The approach, reported by Metro via Spanish sources, comes at a time when Arsenal are closely monitoring Koundé’s situation.

Spanish journalist Gerard Romero added detail on his YouTube channel, revealing that Barcelona have significantly stepped up contact with Porro’s representatives in recent days and have already put an initial proposal on the table for his agents to assess.

Koundé is not pushing for the exit. He has shown no desire to leave at this stage, and there is no agreement in place. That limbo, though, has forced Barcelona to move early rather than wait for the market to dictate their options.

Porro, 26, has grown into one of Tottenham’s standout performers. His form in north London has been matched by his status with Spain, where he started the majority of their games on the way to winning the last World Cup.

Tottenham moved to secure their asset last June, handing Porro a new contract that runs until 2031. Inside the club he is seen as a pillar of their project, with coach Roberto De Zerbi publicly describing him as an important player who can shape matches in both defence and attack.

That dual threat is precisely what catches Barcelona’s eye. Porro offers flexibility across the back line, comfortable in multiple roles and systems. If Koundé eventually moves on, Barcelona want a defender who can plug gaps, change angles and still carry a threat going forward.

For now, Koundé stays, Porro remains tied to a long deal at Tottenham, and nothing is close. But Barcelona have made their first move, and in a summer that promises upheaval at the back, they have already chosen the profile they want.
