Barcelona Secures Karim Adeyemi on a Five-Year Deal

Karim Adeyemi has officially joined Barcelona, agreeing to a five-year contract at Camp Nou. The transfer fee remains undisclosed by the club, but reports from ESPN suggest the initial payment was around €22 million (£18.8m), with potential add-ons worth an additional €7 million (£6m). Borussia Dortmund is expected to receive a cut from any future profits if Barcelona sells the player later.

Adeyemi's Career Path and Performance

Before breaking into professional football with Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in 2018, Adeyemi spent time in the youth ranks of Bayern Munich. During his stint at Salzburg, he tallied 33 goals and 24 assists in 94 appearances. He moved to Dortmund in the summer of 2022, where he made 146 appearances across all competitions, scoring 36 goals and assisting 25 times.

The German international featured 48 times in the Champions League, netting 16 goals and providing seven assists. Barcelona expects him to strengthen their attack, which also welcomed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United this summer.

"FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement for the transfer of forward Karim Adeyemi, who has signed a contract with the Catalans until 2031," said an official Barcelona statement. "He can play on either wing or as a centre-forward, known for his speed and powerful left foot. These traits add valuable options for coach Hansi Flick, who first introduced Adeyemi to senior international football while the player was at Red Bull Salzburg."

When Could Adeyemi Debut?

Adeyemi did not take part in the 2026 World Cup and carries no injury concerns, so he is ready to start training and playing with Barcelona immediately. Although he might miss the opening pre-season friendly against CE Europa, he is likely to join the team on their England trip next week. His possible first appearance could be in the friendly against Birmingham City on July 31.

His competitive debut under coach Hansi Flick might come in Barcelona’s La Liga opener against Elche on August 23.
