Bayern Munich's Christoph Freund on Sacha Boey's Future

Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has admitted that Sacha Boey is now more likely to stay at the club after a summer move failed to materialise.

The German champions had been open to offloading the 25-year-old, but the Bundesliga transfer window closed without an agreement, leaving the French full-back in limbo — at least for now.

“The probability is now greater that he'll stay here,” Freund told reporters on Friday, underlining that the club’s stance has shifted with the market effectively shutting down around them.

Boey, who has struggled to establish himself as a regular since arriving in Munich, has not kicked up a fuss behind the scenes, something Freund made a point of highlighting.

“He's always behaved in impeccable fashion. The plan was different, but this can happen in football,” the sporting director said, acknowledging that Bayern had been prepared for a different outcome to this window.

The situation is now clear from the club’s side. If no late move emerges from leagues whose windows remain open, Boey will be part of Bayern’s squad for the season ahead.

“When all transfer windows are closed and he's still here, then he'll remain a player in our squad,” Freund concluded — a line that sounds less like a concession and more like a firm decision Bayern are ready to stand by.
