Bradley Barcola Set for Blockbuster Move to Liverpool

Liverpool are closing in on one of the boldest transfers of the summer – and one of the biggest in their history.

Bradley Barcola’s long-running saga is finally reaching its endgame, with L'Équipe reporting that the France international will fly to England on Saturday to put the finishing touches on a blockbuster move to Anfield.

Barcola on the brink of Anfield switch

At 23, Barcola has been at the centre of intense talks between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain for weeks. The stalemate has broken. The winger is now expected to undergo his medical and sign a long-term deal with the Premier League club once he lands on Merseyside.

The clearest sign this was coming arrived in PSG’s recent 2-2 draw with Rennes. Luis Enrique left Barcola out of the matchday squad entirely, a decision that all but confirmed his time at the Parc des Princes was running out. Personal terms are already understood to be agreed; what remains are the signatures and formalities on English soil before Liverpool can unveil their new forward.

A €140m statement of intent

The numbers are staggering. The total package is worth around €140m, underlining Liverpool’s determination to reload at the very top end of the market. PSG had initially pushed for €170m, but a compromise was struck after what are described as productive negotiations led by Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon.

That fee would make Barcola the second-most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, behind only the £125m spent on Alexander Isak last year. It is another aggressive move from a club intent on staying in the slipstream of Europe’s elite, having already poured major investment into talents such as Florian Wirtz.

For PSG, it is a different kind of landmark. The sale will be the biggest in the club’s history, a record departure that feeds directly into their wider rebuild under Luis Enrique.

Salah’s heir – and a reshaped attack

Inside Liverpool, Barcola was earmarked early in the window as the man to eventually succeed Mohamed Salah on the right side of the attack. When a proposed move for Yan Diomande collapsed, the club didn’t spread their bets. They doubled down on Barcola, funnelling all their energy and resources into prising him away from Paris.

His numbers last season were solid rather than spectacular: 49 appearances, 13 goals. Yet those figures came in a crowded frontline, where minutes were shared and hierarchy mattered. With Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue ahead of him at times, Barcola often had to make do with a supporting role.

Anfield offers something different – a clearer route to regular starts, a defined role in a front line being carefully retooled for the next cycle.

Knock-on effects for Liverpool’s squad

A €140m arrival rarely lands without consequences. Attention is already turning to the existing forwards, with Cody Gakpo’s future under the spotlight. The Dutchman has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, and the pressure on squad places will only intensify once Barcola walks through the door.

Liverpool may be forced into at least one high-profile sale to balance both the books and the dressing room. Yet there is little sign that the recruitment drive is slowing. The club continue to scan the market for another right-sided option, having seen earlier enquiries for Ismaila Sarr and Endrick turned away.

Liverpool have stayed active right up to the final hours of the window. With Barcola about to join, the bigger question now is not whether they are rebuilding, but just how radically this new-look attack will change the face of Anfield in the seasons to come.
