Bruno Guimaraes Aims to Help Arsenal Build a Dynasty

Bruno Guimaraes says he has signed up to help Mikel Arteta “make a dynasty” at Arsenal – and he is convinced this squad can dominate the major competitions.

Arsenal brushed aside Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield in Cardiff, then backed it up by opening their Premier League title defence with a commanding 3-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry at the Emirates Stadium.

Guimaraes watched that home win from the sidelines. A groin problem picked up against City delayed what would have been his first appearance in front of the Arsenal fans since completing a £75million move from Newcastle.

The Brazilian, though, is in no doubt he has joined a project built for the long term.

“Since the first time I spoke to him, he wants to make a dynasty here, trying to win everything as possible and I am always very excited of his idea,” Guimaraes told the Men In Blazers network on YouTube.

Everything around him is new – the training ground, the manager’s demands, the patterns in midfield – but he is embracing the change.

“Everything is very new for me, and I am just trying to get used to the players, to the manager, to the staff, the way he works,” he said. “I can say that I am still finding my best way in the group, but I love it here.”

Arteta’s Arsenal already boast one of the league’s most imposing midfields. Guimaraes is determined not just to break into it, but to give his manager as many options as possible.

“I can play every position in the midfield, but this just depends on Mikel’s ideas,” he explained. “He said to me that I can play everywhere, and I said yes, it just depends on you and where he wanted me to play. I am just ready to play for Arsenal, no matter where.”

Targets? He is not interested in limiting this team with numbers on a whiteboard.

“I don’t have like one target – we go for everything. I think the potential we have in this team is unbelievable,” Guimaraes said. “I don’t want to put targets, we need to think game again and let’s see how far we can go, but with this team, I have a big chance of winning trophies.”

Next up is a trip to Aston Villa on Monday night, where another big-money signing could be thrust straight into the spotlight. England defender Ezri Konsa, who completed a £51m move last week, may face his former club if selected.

One forward, though, appears to be moving in the opposite direction. Gabriel Martinelli has not featured in either the Community Shield win over Manchester City or the league opener against Coventry and is reportedly closing in on a transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.

As Arsenal talk openly about dynasties and clean sweeps, the squad is being sharpened in real time – with Guimaraes at the heart of Arteta’s bold vision.
